The Gardener
and the Rose
He shuffled to the door collecting his gloves and the short cutters in his hand and He outside squinting at the morning sun as it rose. With a purposeful step he made his way to the garden where they had spent many years planting and cultivating the flowers. His eyes searching for that one special prize and there he saw it. He had purchased the root from a supplier in England by pawning his last memory of a past life. He had tended the plant through all kinds of weather, nursing it to health each day until today keeping it hidden from her sight for this special day. He strode towards the grove where the rosebush and the one perfect blossom greeted the day. With a crinkled smile on his old weathered face he bent down and gently snipped the perfect blossom and slowly turned towards the house.
As he walked he could imagine the delight on her face, the warmth of her smile and the twinkling of her eyes. He entered the house, took off his gloves and slowly went up the stairs. She was as he had left her, fast asleep. He noticed a smile playing on her pink lips as he placed the rose gently by her head so that it would complement the color of her rosebud lips. It would be the first thing she could smell and the first thing that she would see when she opened her eyes.
He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, crept from the room and went downstairs to make the coffee. He heard the low cry of delight from the room above and he gave himself a small smile when she called his name with love and his eyes looked up to the ceiling where she lay. He climbed back up the stairs with the coffee into the room and closed the door behind him, joy and pure love in his eyes as he saw his partner and mate and the delight in her eyes, and the smile on her face he knew he was home.
We close this door now, hearing the low sounds of love coming from the room as two lovers mutter words of endearment to each other as only two who have truly loved for many years, can utter.
"Darling?..............."
"...............Yes, My Love? "
